Description

Circular elm burl top, enriched with an exceptionally elaborate inlaid decoration in ebony and fine woods. The decoration is arranged in concentric bands: at the center, a figurative reserve with confronting putti surrounding a heraldic motif, followed by a band of grotesques, fantastic creatures, foliate scrolls, and cartouches. The perimeter of the top is emphasized by a geometric inlaid border. The support is equally elaborate: a triangular central shaft opens into four carved legs, enriched with applied carved elements and linked by classically inspired architectural features. The legs terminate in carved paw feet. The overall design clearly recalls the Neo-Renaissance repertoire, widely favored by Tuscan workshops of the 19th century.
