Description
A George III sterling silver cruet stand, Edward Aldridge II, London, 1770
Circular stand with a pierced border, richly decorated with interlaced vegetal motifs and stylised birds. The body is raised on three shaped stylised feet, while a central arched handle rises above for carrying. The interior houses a complete set of containers.
Sterling silver marked with five hallmarks (referring to the stand):
- Maker’s mark: Edward Aldridge II
- Lion passant: standard mark guaranteeing sterling silver fineness 925/1000
- Crowned leopard’s head: London assay office
- Date letter: 1770
Different hallmarks are present on the two oil cruets: Sheffield, 1899, as well as on the pepper shaker and the salt container with its spoon. Hallmarks are absent on the remaining containers.

Condition
Minor wear consistent with age and light surface scratches. The five hallmarks are present on the base of the condiment stand. Hallmarks are present on the two oil cruets, the pepper shaker, and the salt container with its spoon. Repairs to one glass stopper and to one glass bottle.
