Adoration of the Magi

The panel under examination depicts the episode narrated in the Gospel of Matthew: the visit and adoration of the Magi to the Christ Child in Bethlehem. From an iconographic point of view, the scene shows, on the left, Joseph standing, with Mary seated beside him holding the Divine Infant. In the background, there is a Renaissance-style architectural setting with marble columns and rounded arches; on the right, on the same plane as the Holy Family, are the three Magi. In the distance, a landscape opens up, with a procession of figures approaching the event. The technical characteristics, the support, and the pictorial materials suggest a dating from the late 15th century to the first half of the 16th century. Specific thematic references allow us to place the execution within the context of central Italy.
