First edition, first issue with "you" for "your" on p.13 line 3, frontispiece and 15 plates by Sidney Paget. Original red pictorial cloth, stamped in gilt and black. The Hound of the Baskervilles marked the return of Sherlock Holmes after his apparent death at the Reichenbach Falls had shocked and dismayed his devoted Victorian audience. First published in serial form in The Strand Magazine in 1901, it proved an immediate and remarkable success, drawing crowds and long lines at the publisher’s offices and across the country. Ink ownership inscription to the front free endpaper; tissue guard and title page with light foxing. Spine slightly toned. Small white spot to the spine. Overall, a bright and excellent copy.
