Contemporary marbled paper-covered boards, with gilt title on a spine label. Engraved title page and 77 copper-engraved plates hand-colored in watercolor. One of the fundamental works of bryology. It was written by the renowned Swiss botanist Johann Hedwig, considered the founder of modern bryology, and published posthumously by his pupil and successor Friedrich Schwägrichen.
